Below is a list of over-the-counter medications which are safe to use during pregnancy. You must avoid any drug use during your pregnancy, especially during the first 14 weeks.  If you have "minor" symptoms and require medication, please make your selection from the list below.  If your symptoms are not relieved by these medications, please discuss this on your next visit or if necessary, call our office for further advice.  DO NOT take any medications that are not listed without consulting your physician's office first, you can reach our physician/ nursing staff at (850) 689-2223.

HEADACHE/ ROUTINE ACHES AND PAINS:
            Tylenol (Regular or Extra Strength) as directed

NAUSEA:
            Emetrol

CONSTIPATION:
            Metamucil (powder or wafers) - mix powder with 4-8 ounces of liquid.
            Increase the amount of water you drink and increase the fiber in your diet.

HEARTBURN/ INDIGESTION:
            Mylanta
            Maalox/ Maalox Plus
            Tums/ Rolaids
            Prilosec
            ** All of the above should be used in moderation

DIARRHEA:
            Immodium - Take 4 mg initially then one tablet after each loose stool; DO NOT exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
                                     Discontinue if not improvement within 48 hours. Avoid eating solids for 24 hours and contact the
                                    office if no improvement.

HEMORRHOIDS:
            Preparation-H ( should be used in moderation)

COUGH/ COLD/ SINUS CONGESTION:
            Sudafed (as directed)
            Tylenol Cold and Sinus (as directed)
            Robitussin/ Robitussin DM - 2 tsp every four hours                                                                                           
            Chlor-Trimeton 4 mg tablets - 1 every four hours
            Sucrets or Chloraseptic Spray (as directed)

VAGINAL ITCHING/ YEAST INFECTION:
            Monistat Vaginal Cream (as directed)      
                                                                                                                                                             
            


CALL OUR OFFICE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING...

1.    If you do not feel your baby move. Before contacting the physicians office, try changing
      activities to stimulate your little one, begin drinking LOTS of fluids, and you can try
      massaging or moving your little one with your hands on your abdomen.

2.    When your water breaks.  This can be a gush, or just a trickle that doesn't stop. Pay
       attention if the fluid is thick, odorous, has a color, etc... your physician will need to know.

3.     If bright red bleeding occurs. Spotting after an exam or after intercourse is not unusual and
       is generally brown in color. You might notice this when wiping yourself, if you are
       saturating a pad with bright red blood contact your physician immediately.

4.    Headache not relieved by Tylenol.  If you have blurred vision or other visual disturbances
       contact your physicians office.

5.    Fever over 100 degrees.

6.    Abdominal Pain that is sharp and will not go away.

7.    When should you go to the hospital after your contractions begin?  Before 37 weeks you are 
       "pre-term" so a physician will need to check you if your contractions are occuring more than
       6 times an hour. Otherwise, when your contractions are 4 - 5 minutes apart and lasting for 
       more than a minute and you are no longer able to walk or talk through them, you will need
       to go to the hospital Labor and Delivery Unit for evaluation.



CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION COURSES...


This is a two day course designed to help prepare you and your partner for the birth of your child. It is a series of classes where you are instructed in breathing and relaxation techniques and prepares you both mentally and physically for your delivery.  These courses are offered through North Okaloosa Medical Center ,see our "Links" page to connect for futher information or call (850) 689-8340. ** Classes are held at the Education/Health Resource Center 125B Redstone Ave., Crestview, FL.


Tips on classes...

    *  Recommended attendance is in the 28th week of pregnancy.

    *  Class size is limited to eight (8) couples... so call early!! First come, first served.  You need
